Pochettino makes incredible statement about Ndombele’s future

Tottenham Hotspur debutant, Tanguy Ndombele, had a game to remember for Spurs today against Aston Villa in the Premier League.

With Spurs chasing silverware this season, it was vitally important to get off to a good start with a win at home on the opening day of the season.

However, Aston Villa were not reading from that script, as they bagged a goal right at the start of the match after some sloppy Spurs defending.

In truth, Ndombele had a rather quiet and unimpressive debut in the first 60 minutes of the match, as he almost seemed nervous to try anything other than the simplest of passes.

However, that changed when Lucas pulled the ball back to him just outside the penalty area late on in the match, as Ndombele curled a beautiful effort past Tom Heaton to make it 1-1.

From here on out, all the tricks, flicks, and driving runs from his Lyon days come flooding out, as if the midfield man just needed a spark of confidence to get him going.

Pochettino has now even suggested that he was only playing at 30-40% (Football London): “It was a fantastic performance. But to be honest there is a lot to improve, he only showed 30 or 40 per cent of his potential. He has amazing potential to improve.

“It’s [Scoring] one of the aspects he needs to work on, he didn’t score too many goals at Lyon, but that is one of the areas that is a target for him to improve this season. It is so early, in his first game he scored. I am delighted for him, he is a player that arrived to the team from another country and it is always a difficult adaption and it is going to help him to feel happy and comfortable on the pitch and with his team?”
