Pochettino not surprised about the speculation around his own future

Tottenham Hotspur are enduring their worst start to a season under Mauricio Pochettino after taking just three wins from 12 matches in the 2019/20 campaign.

The disappointment has been spread across all competitions too, as the Lilywhites have underperformed in the Premier League, Champions League, and Carabao Cup.

In fact, Spurs are already out of the first cup of the season after they lost to League Two side Colchester United in their very first match in the competition.

Tottenham have also yet to win in the Champions League this season, despite reaching the final just a few months ago in Madrid. Spurs threw away a two-goal lead to draw against Olympiacos before getting battered 7-2 at home to Bayern.

The club’s Premier League form has done little to ease the pressure on Pochettino either, as Spurs have won just three matches, already racking up losses to Leicester City, Newcastle United, and Brighton. As a result, Poch is not surprised about the speculation surrounding his future.

When asked if he was surprised, Poch said (Football London): “No. That is football. I am not surprised. In the same way people praise you. If you don’t perform as people expect it’s normal. No, I am not surprised. No no no. Football is always about to win today and what happened yesterday is gone. We apply this philosophy to us. Managers and coaching staff always need to think that you need to win, today and tomorrow.

“Sometimes we are too much ahead and the people sometimes believe ‘come on gaffer you are thinking too much, too much’. Yes, I think too much ahead as if I don’t win…. then it not surprise me this rumour.”
