Pochettino offers update on potential incomings

Mauricio Pochettino has held his pre-match press conference ahead of Tottenham’s Premier League opener against Newcastle United.

The 46-year-old admitted it would be difficult for his side to bring in any players with just hours to go until the deadline:

“I think it’s so difficult now. Only four hours to the end. I don’t have news now. Sure it will be difficult. Until you finish the game you can’t say it’s the end. It will be difficult,” he said.

Spurs remain the only side in the Premier League not to have added to their squad and look unlikely to do so.

Although the Argentine refused to rule anything out, it seemed pretty apparent that even he is aware Spurs look unlikely to bring anyone in.

A move for long-term target Jack Grealish fell apart yesterday after the Aston Villa owners announced the 22-year-old was no longer for sale.

Only three hours currently remain until the window slams shut, can Daniel Levy pull out a last-gasp move and bring in Tottenham’s first signing of the summer?

Have something to tell us about this article?

  1. This disaster is two pronged. Not only is there no additional depth or big signing, but we still have rubbish like Janssen, Llorente and Sissoko, even though other transfer windows could still allow them time to be sold. We look especially short in central midfield. Dier is average, Wanyama was great first season, but seems to have injuries and not be playing so well. Dembele I guess is staying and unless we can get him to sign a new deal will leave for free in a year. Alderwiereld. Can Pochettino and him fix whatever has happened there? Can we get him to sign a new deal/improve our offer. Will he go for £25m in a year’s time? Grealish would have been a nice signing. Quite raw, but he is young enough and that creative player who gets you out of your seat. It just made no sense to wait until the last minute. Clubs haven’t changed their stance on prices and players they don’t want to sell. The PL clubs also have no time to get a replacement. So it is stupid and pointless. I also find it odd the window shuts at 5pm as it just leaves less time to get last minute deals done. Our man Dan, always does like to shop at the last minute, mostly with an appalling success rate. For every Van Der Vaart there is a Fraizer Campbell, Clint Dempsey or Moussa Sissoko. God he is sh8t at this. Please Mauricio, let your recent interview be a well planned smokescreen. Spurs announce Anthony Martial at 4.59pm!!!!
