Pochettino on whether Son will be fit for tomorrow

Tottenham Hotspur looked a different side when Son returned to action against Watford mid-week.

The winger had previously been away with his native South Korea at the Asia Cup, but a shock early exit at the hands of Qatar meant he was back in London in time for the Premier League fixture.

Having Son up alongside a more confident Fernando Llorente gave Tottenham a different, more fluid shape to their side.

It allowed Llorente to hold the ball up, and feed the likes of Son in behind, or even lay it off for them to take a shot, which is exactly how Spurs grabbed their first goal.

However, after playing three high-intensity games at the Asia Cup, flying home, and jumping straight into 90 minutes of Premier League action, Son is of course fatigued.

Pochettino was asked in today’s press conference whether Son is fit enough to play against Newcastle tomorrow.

Poch said (Football London): “Today is a point to asses him. Yesterday after 24 hours he was so tired and we don’t do too much on training. Today we will train and prepare and will see if he’s in condition to win.”
