Spurs boss on whether the win over Red Star Belgrade can be a turning point

Tottenham Hotspur’s most impressive win of the season came at home against Red Star Belgrade last month, when the Lilywhites ran away as 5-0 victors on the night.

The hope among many Spurs fans was that the club could kick on and use the win to finally turn their season around, but it was not to bed.

Tottenham then travelled to Liverpool and threw away a 1-0 lead, losing 2-1 at Anfield. They followed this up by handing away yet another lead to draw 1-1 away to Everton.

Spurs are now preparing for another Premier League tie off the back of their away trip to Red Star, coming in with the confidence of another solid win.

Tottenham beat the Serbian side 4-0 but must now defeat Sheffield United at home to finally maintain some momentum.

Unfortunately for Spurs, the Blades are currently sixth in the Premier League table, with the Lilywhites in 11th.

Pochettino was asked whether the Red Star win can be a turning point (Football London): “I hope yes, hopefully keep in the same way. It was a difficult game, the result 4-0 looks easy, but in different periods, we nearly conceded. They hit the post, an unbelievable save from Paulo [Gazzaniga] that could change the game.

“Always you need luck to score first and then have the capacity to control. I was happy after Everton and after Red Star, but we need to finish winning, but it will be tough.”
