Pochettino opens up Totteham’s chances of a top four finish

Two weeks ago Tottenham Hotspur were well and truly part of the title race and had an opportunity to reduce the gap to the top of the table to just two points with a win against Burnley.

However, Spurs have suffered three defeats in four matches since which not only ended the club’s title hopes but also put them in a battle to secure Champions League football for next season with a top four finish now at risk.

The defeat against Southampton yesterday afternoon puts Spurs in a perilous position as Arsenal can now cut the gap to just a point if they manage to win against Manchester Uniteon d this afternoon.

With Spurs yet to travel to the Etihad and Anfield, the team is now in very real danger of not qualifying for the Champions League next season.

Speaking after the game, Pochettino, however, said that Tottenham find themselves in a good position in the top four race and that they would have accepted their current position at the start of the season.

Speaking to Football.London, the Argentine said: “Yes. I think it is easy to understand, difficult to practice and it is more difficult for me to explain everything in front of you.

“The position that we are is a very good position. Of course disappointed in the last few Premier League games, we didn’t win. But still we are in a position that everyone should sign for in the beginning of the season.

“It is difficult to predict the circumstances at the start of the season. To be in a very good position at the end of the season, maybe we need to understand that it is our limit to be there. If it is our limit we need to take some decisions in the future.”
