Pochettino optimistic on Champions League chances

Harry Kane gave Tottenham Hotspur a lifeline in the Champions League on Tuesday as he fired home two late goals to snatch all three points.

PSV had taken the lead after just a minute of play, and defended for their lives for the next 80.

Tottenham needed a victory to keep their Champions League campaign alive after picking up just one point in the previous three games.

Spurs now need to beat Inter Milan convincingly at home before picking up three points at the Nou Camp to qualify for the knockouts.

This sounds like far from an easy task, but Barcelona will have likely qualified top by this point, so Tottenham may be hoping for a weakened team.

However bleak their chances look, they are a whole lot rosier than they were with 10 or 15 minutes to go against PSV at Wembley.

Tottenham manager Mauricio Pochettino is remaining optimistic over his club’s qualification chances.

Reuters report he said: “We deserved more in Milan (against Inter), we played better than them. I am optimistic. If we beat them, the percentage of being in the next stage will be higher.

“Two games to play. If we are capable of beating Inter, we’ll be on seven points (each). Then we are going to go to Barcelona and try to win the game.

“The team deserved the victory. We won and suffered a lot. It was a massive effort so I was pleased. We played a lot in eight days. Now we need to try to recover for Saturday (at Crystal Palace).

“The team is growing up. We have the character of never giving up which is so important.”
