Pochettino reacts to the Audi Cup trophy win over Bayern Munich

Tottenham Hotspur had their first taste of a cup final pretty early on this season, as they took part in the Audi Cup over in Germany.

Spurs beat Real Madrid in their semi-final on Tuesday, with Harry Kane scoring the only goal of the game against Los Blancos.

The England captain jumped on a Marcelo mistake and burst into the box, clipping the ball beyond a helpless Navas in goal.

Spurs then took on the winners of the other semi, Bayern Munich, last night in the final of the competition at the Allianz Arena.

The Lilywhites got off to a fast start, scoring after a superb Nkoudou cross set up Erik Lamela for a tap in. This lead doubled in the second 45 when Harry Kane assisted Eriksen for a delightful bottom corner finish.

However, Bayern subbed on their big guns and fought back, levelling the score and pushing for a winner late on, with Spurs simply hanging on for penalties.

Despite a Bayern surge, Spurs got their pens and beat the German champions to see them lift the Audi Cup.

Pochettino had this to say (Football London): “Yes I am very pleased with the performance against Madrid and today against Bayern Munich. It was very important to finish in a very good way in this tournament that is a very important tournament with our partner Audi. I think we should be very happy with the performance of the first team and the squad to win this tournament. It’s always better to win then lose and that is why I am happy and there’s a lot of positive things we can take from these two games.

“It has not been easy for us after losing the Champions League Final. When something like that happens it’s hard to get on your feet. But we are all sportsmen and we all like to compete so it’s up to us to find the motivation. I’m very happy.”
