Pochettino remains confident of Champions League final dreams

Tottenham Hotspur did not get off to the dream start they would have wanted in the Champions League last night, as they conceded an away goal just 15 minutes into the tie.

Hosting the first leg of the semi-final against Ajax, Spurs would have been hoping to carve a lead to take to the Netherlands, as they did to Manchester in the last round.

However, Donny Van de Beek ended any aspirations of a clean sheet for Pochettino’s men, as he latched onto a through ball and slotted home early in the game.

Although Tottenham did eventually recover and improve, they failed to carve many real chances at goal, and will now have it all to do in the away leg.

Spurs will hopefully have Heung Min Son back from his suspension and Moussa Sissoko fit to start the return leg.

Pochettino still seemed confident of his team’s chances of reaching the final in his post-match press conference (Football London): “I think it’s still open. It’s going to be difficult because we lost the game. Now it’s about to prepare the second leg and go there and try to win the game. We need one result and that is to win. We want to be in the final. I think the second-half gives us hope for the second leg in Amsterdam.”
