Tottenham Hotspur just about bounced back to winning ways yesterday in the Premier League, following up their 1-0 loss to Man United last weekend with a 2-1 victory over Fulham.
This was Spurs’ first game without the injured Harry Kane, with Heung Min Son and Lucas Moura both absent also.
This left Pochettino with just Fernando Llorente as his only fit first team forward, and the Spanish big man didn’t cover himself in glory through the 90 minutes.
Llorente started by awkwardly prodding the ball into his own net in the first half, before missing a host of chances to draw level and then win the game later on.
The former World Cup winner looked far from confident on the wall, and clueless in front of goal, but thanks to headers from Dele Alli and Harry Winks, Spurs emerged with all three points.
Pochettino revealed that he was happy with the result and the solid performance, stating that he side actually scored all three goals.
He said (Football London): “I am so happy with the three points, it wasn’t the best game. The performance was very solid and we scored three goals in the end. But so happy because in the second half we showed great character and personality. In the first half it was a little bit difficult. After Llorente scored the own goal, we struggled from set pieces and they played long balls. It was difficult for us to sort that problem but I think overall we dominated the game. Second half I was so happy with. The last action with Harry Winks was a brilliant action that showed the belief of not only him but the team to keep going, try to win until the end. That talked very highly about him and the team.”
