Pochettino reveals he is in a WhatsApp group with the players after they invited him to dinner

It has been a testing time for Tottenham over the last two months, as they have slumped to arguably their worst form since Pochettino took over at the club.

The Lilywhites have just three wins from their eleven matches across all competitions so far this season, including heavy defeats to Brighton and Bayern Munich.

However, it appears that spirits still remain high in the camp and the squad is still very much together in the fight, as Pochettino revealed in his press conference yesterday.

While the players can often turn against the manager in situations such as this, the opposite appears to be happening in North London.

Pochettino revealed that the players invited him and his staff out for dinner this week after returning from international duty.

When asked which player extended the invite, Pochettino added that he was in a WhatsApp group with the squad, so it could have come from anyone.

He said (Football London): “It’s the quality of the time that you spend with people. It’s not the quantity,” he said. “It’s not because you are going to spend 24 hrs and after you are going to feel good. Maybe you spend 40 minutes talking with someone or with all the players and you feel you are over the moon.

“For me, it’s the quality and the message and what the people translate to you, too. That is the most important thing, that energy. Is it a cable that connects all the people or is the cable cut at some point and you see that it doesn’t work?

“The most important thing is that because in the last three days, I think when the people start to arrive, from Monday, Danny [Rose] arrived, different people … when you feel the energy it’s because something special happened.

“Then when last week, you receive a text from the player inviting you and the coaching staff for a dinner. Only two things can happen, because they want to say goodbye! Or because they feel that they love you and they want to show that they are with you. And I think it’s the second.

“They are not about to say goodbye to me. To say goodbye to me, say goodbye here! Not inviting me to dinner.”

On which player it was, he added: “You can guess! Players. All the players, because it’s a WhatsApp group.”

This is great to hear! As soon as the manager loses the players, the situation is often irreversible. It seems as if it hasn’t reached that point for Poch and Spurs.
