Pochettino reveals he will put faith in youngsters this week ahead of Colchester clash

Tottenham Hotspur will look to put the Leicester defeat behind them this week as they take on Colchester in the Carabao Cup.

The knock out cup competitions will likely be Tottenham’s best chance for a trophy this year, so it is key for them to negotiate these early rounds.

However, it appears that Pochettino will be putting faith in some young academy players as the team makes the trip to Colchester tomorrow night.

Poch has revealed that he intends to name a mixture of youth and first team in the squad, as he believes the youngster need chances to break into the senior team.

This follows the trend shown in pre-season this year when Pochettino not only took academy players, but handed them a hefty number of minutes.

The likes of Troy Parrott and Japhet Tanganga in particular impressed out on the Asia Tour, so it would be good to see them being given chances in the first team.

Poch said (Football London): “The young players need games to improve and try to show their quality and maybe fight for a place in the starting XI in the Champions League or Premier League.

“We are going to have a mix, we will assess the squad because we are going to have a very tough period and we need to manage the squad. We are going to be there trying to win the game.”
