Pochettino reveals positive injury news on four key players

Tottenham Hotspur are under a week away from their first ever Champions League final, as they make their final preparations for the Madrid showdown with Liverpool.

With 20 days gap between the end of the Premier League season and the Champions League final this year, Spurs have been able to get some vital players back into training.

It was announced earlier this week that Harry Kane, Jan Vertonghen, and Davinson Sanchez had all returned to outdoor training following their injuries (Daily Mail).

Kane picked up an ankle ligament issue against Man City in the first leg of the Champions League quarters, while Jan Vertonghen picked his injury up against his old club Ajax.

Pochettino has now revealed that these three first-team stars, as well as academy graduate Harry Winks, are all progressing well and will have a chance to feature against Liverpool in the final.

This is great news for Spurs, as they will hopefully be able to field something close to the strongest possible XI.

Poch said (Daily Mail): “We are happy. We are going to assess him, like any other player: like Jan Vertonghen, Harry Winks. Of course, the most important thing is that they have the possibility to be available.

“With Harry, Davinson Sanchez, Harry Winks and Jan, the evolution today is very good. We are so happy. We are working very hard. And then it’s going to be our decision to see if they are going to be available to play and if they will be available from the beginning or be on the bench and help the team.

“Because the most important thing in a final is not always the starting eleven, maybe people from the bench come on and be the heroes. There are a lot of examples of this.”

Spurs Web Opinion:

I would be inclined to start Harry Winks and Jan Vertonghen if fit, but would leave Kane as an impact sub, unless he is progressing extremely well with his recovery. I would rather have a fit and in-form Lucas than a leggy and out of form Kane picked purely on reputation.
