Pochettino reveals positive stadium news

Tottenham Hotspur became the butt of the joke earlier this year after a combination of silly advertising and stadium delays.

Spurs had previously advertised their brand new stadium as the only place to watch Champions League football in London in 2018/19.

This was clearly a jab at Chelsea and Arsenal failing to qualify for Europe’s elite competition, but the joke very nearly backfired, something rival fans were eager to point out.

Stadium delays meant that Tottenham couldn’t play their group stage matches in the new ground, as well as the first leg of their round of sixteen tie against Borussia Dortmund.

This meant that if Spurs were knocked out, there would in fact be no Champions League football in the new stadium either.

Thankfully Tottenham have now booked their place in the quarter finals of the competition, and Mauricio Pochettino is confident the side can play the home leg in the new stadium.

He said (Football London): “I expect to play at the new stadium. I was talking yesterday with Daniel and he was very positive, I hope yes and I wish we can play in our new stadium. We were sitting and listening to the Champions League song and we were talking with Jesus [Perez] saying it will be amazing to be in the new stadium listening to that song before the game. Now we are in the quarter-final I hope we can finish and we can listen to the song there.”
