Pochettino reveals what went wrong at Burnley and why

Tottenham Hotspur face Chelsea, Arsenal and Borussia Dortmund in the next week, but in many ways, their biggest match has already been and gone.

The game against Burnley on Saturday may not have been the toughest on paper, but it represented a chance for Spurs to pile on the pressure and close the gap between themselves and Liverpool down to just two points.

Instead, Spurs lost 2-1 and Liverpool extended the gap to six points over the North London side.

Now Tottenham have been left with a mountain to climb if they are to claw their way back into the title race. They must also watch their backs and avoid being pulled back into a top four race.

They will have to start with two tough wins away to Chelsea and at home to Arsenal in the space of a few days.

Pochettino has revealed what he believes went wrong at Turf Moor, and why his team were dominated in certain situations.

He said (Football London): “We didn’t impose our position in our own area. I think in the last third we didn’t dominate in the way that we wanted to dominate because always I think if you watch the game always at every corner or set piece against us, always the feeling was that they can beat us in the air and concede and we did concede. I think that was the feeling, but because we weren’t capable of imposing ourselves in a defensive line of course that is why we lost the game. I’m always so clear.”
