Pochettino reveals why Spurs getting knocked out the cup was fair

Tottenham Hotspur suffered a surprise early exit from the FA Cup yesterday, despite reaching the semi finals of the tournament for the previous two years running.

Spurs fell to a 2-0 defeat to Crystal Palace in the fourth round this time around, just four days after their Carabao Cup loss to Chelsea.

Pochettino was without Harry Kane, Dele Alli, and Heung Min Son, and chose to rest Danny Rose, Harry Winks, and Christian Eriksen, with the latter not even included on the bench.

This severely weakened team proved to be no match for a determined Crystal Palace, who took the lead in the first 10 minutes and never gave it up.

They made it 2-0 in the first half after a moment of madness from Kyle Walker-Peters gave away a penalty, and ex-Spur Andros Townsend dispatched it.

Spurs missed numerous opportunities to claw their way back into the game, with the best falling to Nkoudou, and Trippier via the penalty spot.

However Pochettino described it as a fair result (Football London): “Yes, a fair result because they scored and we didn’t. I cannot say anything again about that. Of course we can talk about possession, we can talk about corners, about shots, about everything… but in football the truth is if you don’t score you don’t deserve to win games. They scored twice. Of course it’s a fair result.”
