Pochettino says Spurs are on same level as Leicester, West Ham, and Everton

Tottenham Hotspur boss Mauricio Pochettino is well into his fifth season with the club now, and has done a fantastic job up until now.

Poch came in a transformed Spurs into Champions League regulars, finishing in the top three in the Prem for the last three seasons.

However, to understand the true scale of the work he and his staff have done with the team, you have to look at the money spent.

Over his four and a half years, Poch has a net spend of just under £30m, which you would do well to buy a decent player with in this current climate.

When you compare this to the hundreds and hundreds of millions spent by the likes of the Manchester clubs, the fact Spurs compete for top four every year is astounding.

Pochettino pointed out in his press conference that budget wise, Spurs are actually on the level with Leicester, West Ham, and Everton, but are punching much higher results wise.

The Guardian report he said: “When you compare the investment or budget, we are in the same position as Everton, West Ham or Leicester. Of course we are so far from the big sides like City or United. But in points we are closer to them than the others. In performance last season the same; we are closer in points than our budget says.

“It is not easy to improve only with investment. You need time: to invest, to create a philosophy, a methodology. I think what Tottenham have is a clear idea. Then you have to try to keep your best players to be competitive. Sometimes money is going to help but it is not the most important thing. And in the end everyone invests, still only one team can win.”
