Pochettino singles this player out for praise – and it isn’t Heung Min Son

Tottenham Hotspur continue their fine winning form today by beating Newcastle 1-0 at Wembley, a result that sent them second in the table.

Spurs leapfrogged Man City, with the title holders set to play Arsenal on Sunday.

Tottenham have been winning Premier League games of late, but this is the first in a while in which they haven’t had to fight back from a deficit.

Spurs kept the clean sheet and scored late to grab all three points, and now sit just four behind League leaders Liverpool.

One man who was particularly impressive today was Davinson Sanchez, a defender who had the tough task of marking Solomon Rondon.

Sanchez has had his problems with this particular striker in the past, but today, he barely gave Rondon a sniff in the air, or on the deck.

Rondon was limited to one header, and a blocked shot all game, and Poch singled out Sanchez for praise.

He said (Football London): “I think Davinson was fantastic. He is doing so well, this is his the second season and he is still so young. Today he was very good.”
