Pochettino speaks out on the battered Wembely pitch

Tottenham Hotspur have been playing their home matches at Wembley Stadium for around 18 months yet.

Never has it been more clear that this ground is not their real home than in recent weeks, when NFL took precedent.

As Wembley had already been booked out to hold three big NFL fixtures, Spurs were forced to plan their own schedule around these games.

It also meant that Tottenham were left with a battered, churned, and uneven surface for weeks after the American matches.

The effects of this are still being felt by the Spurs contingent, with the Wembley turf struggling to recover.

Even from watching from your sofa, the pitch is visably browned and bobbly, something a ball playing side like Tottenham will not be enjoying.

I’m sure the players will be counting down the days until they can finally play on that newly laid Tottenham turf in the new stadium.

Pochettino was asked at his pre-Arsenal press conference whether he is happy to be away from the Wembley pitch.

Football London report he said: “I don’t know what they say but only I am so happy to play at Wembley. Of course the pitch is not the best but that circumstance we knew that maybe that moment arrives and we maybe struggle with the pitch at Wembley but it is not Wembley’s fault, it is the circumstance that we need to take.

“When you play, against Chelsea or Inter, the situation is the same for both teams. Of course you want to play on a better pitch but the circumstance is not Wembley’s fault and I think that it is just the circumstance that our stadium is not ready.”
