Mauricio Pochettino has revealed that he wanted to keep hold of Nacer Chadli, but the Belgian international wanted regular first-team football.
Chadli completed a summer transfer to West Bromwich Albion and has impressed, scoring three goals in four appearances for the Baggies.
Pochettino viewed Chadli as more of a squad player rather than a starter after finding himself down on the midfield pecking order at White Hart Lane.
Tomorrow, Chadli will come up against his former employers for the first time and no doubt should Chadli get on the scoresheet then expect social media to go into ‘Spursy’ overdrive.
“It was all clear with him,” Pochettino told a pre-match news conference.
“He asked me before the end of last season if he had the facility to go and play more for another team.
“I said to him ‘you are in my plans but if you want to leave and it’s the right club and the right price then ok, it’s not a problem’.
“In the end he chose to go to West Bromwich,” Pochettino added.
