Portsmouth have given up on their hopes of signing Kyle Naughton on loan from Tottenham Hotspur.
The young full-back was wanted by Steve Cotterill on the south coast but it appears that the £1m which Pompey owe Spurs for Asmir Begovic is scuppering any chance of a deal.
He told The News: “Kyle is still somebody I would like to have. But I need to be making contingency plans because of what’s going on between the clubs.
“There is a political position there that is difficult for Tottenham as well, which I appreciate.
“So we might have to move somewhere else short-term, for a month, and then maybe see what happens in a month’s time.
“I have made one call, the manager is happy about it, the player wants a little bit of time to think about it, which is fair enough because he probably just got pulled out of the blue.
“He will come in for a month initially and if he does well it might be for a bit longer.”
