‘Poor result’ – Paul Merson shares his Spurs v Brentford prediction

Former Arsenal midfielder Paul Merson has shared his prediction ahead of Tottenham Hotspur’s Premier League clash against Brentford this afternoon.

Spurs take to the field at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium for the final time this season where they are looking to keep any hopes alive of a sixth-placed finish and Europa League qualification.

Brighton, who currently occupy sixth spot have a one-point advantage and a game in hand over the north Londoners and are not in action until tomorrow when they host already relegated Southampton.

Last time out, the pundit predicted that Spurs would draw 1-1 at Aston Villa when in fact, it ended as a 2-1 victory for his former side to give Spurs the uphill task of securing their place in European competition next season (Sportskeeda).

He told SportsKeeda: “Brentford will make it hard for Tottenham Hotspur on Saturday but I’ll go with the Lilywhites here. They’re a bit up and down as far as their form is concerned but I expect them to go and win here though they got a poor result against Aston Villa last weekend.

“Spurs will want to qualify for the Europa League at least and they will need to win here to keep that dream alive. The Conference League does not have the same grandeur and history of the Europa League, but Tottenham might have to be content with just that at the end of the season.

“Having said that, I expect them to get a clinical victory in front of their home fans.

“Prediction: Tottenham Hotspur 2-0 Brentford.”

Tottenham fans will be expecting to see the players put in a spirited, high pressing performance for the last time at home this season in what has been a disastrous campaign.

One significant issue for the summer will be Harry Kane’s future and supporters will be praying that today is not the last time they see him in Spurs colours in N17.
