‘Post denied us the victory we deserved’ – Mourinho message on Instagram after Spurs defeat

Jose Mourinho took to Instagram to reiterate that he is proud of his players for the performance they put in at Anfield despite Tottenham falling to a 2-1 defeat against Liverpool yesterday.

It was Spurs’ first loss in the Premier League since their opening day defeat to Everton and handed the Reds an advantage in the title race as they leapfrogged the Lilywhites to go top of the table.

Mourinho insisted after the game that Spurs were the better team on the night and rued the chances that the away side missed at the start of the second half.

There were a couple of chances in particular that Mourinho’s men should have put away. Steven Bergwijn hit the post when he was through one on one with the goalkeeper, while Harry Kane uncharacteristically failed to convert with a free header from six yards out.

Referring to the Bergwijn chance, Mourinho claimed on social media that the post denied his side a victory but admitted that he is proud of his side’s display.

One can understand why Jose is upset as we carried out the game plan to perfection and would have won if we had our scoring boots on. It’s now important that we do not dwell on this result and produce a performance against Leicester City on the weekend.
