Postecoglou comes fifth in Best FIFA Men’s Coach award – Harry Kane voted for him

Ange Postecoglou got the fifth most votes for the Best FIFA Men’s Coach award at the FIFA Best Awards ceremony held in London on Monday.

Postecoglou had a stellar 2023, first guiding Celtic to a historic treble before landing the Tottenham job.

The Australian was written off by many before he even got started in North London but he has proven his critics wrong and has quickly won over Spurs fans as well as many neutrals with his footballing philosophy and the honesty with which he speaks.

Son and Kane vote for Postecoglou as Best Manager

All the international captains and managers get a vote in the FIFA Best Awards and Postecoglou acquired the fifth most points behind the winner Pep Guardiola, Luciano Spalletti, Simone Inzaghi and Xavi Hernandez.

Spurs and South Korea captain Son Heung-min voted for Postecoglou as his number-one choice while Harry Kane, who worked with the 58-year-old for a couple of months prior to his move to Bayern Munich, also voted for the Tottenham boss at third.

Australia captain Mathew Ryan put his countryman at first while Scotland and Liverpool left-back Andy Robertson put the former Celtic boss in second.

When it comes to the managers, Japan’s Hajime Moriyasu, Korea Republic’s Jurgen Klinsmann, Wales’ Robert Page and Scotland’s Steve Clark were among several coaches to put Ange Postecoglou in third place.

Meanwhile, Qatar’s Carlos Queiroz and Colombia’s Nestor De Lorenzo voted for the Tottenham boss as their second pick after Guardiola.

Usually, the top five positions are dominated by coaches who have won the biggest trophies in the game. For Postecoglou to come in fifth is huge, given that he spent half of 2023 in Scotland. It shows he is held in very high regard by managers and the players at the top level.
