Postecoglou comments on Oliver Skipp’s future at Tottenham amid club-trained player rules

In his latest press conference ahead of this weekend’s action in the Premier League, Spurs boss Ange Postecoglou has discussed the future of Oliver Skipp and suggested that a decision will be made at the end of the season.

Oliver Skipp may have made 20 appearances in all competitions this season (Transfermarkt), but he has just under 740 minutes to his name this term.

At an average of just 37 minutes per game, it would be understandable if Skipp was getting a little frustrated with his opportunities under Ange Postecoglou at Spurs.

But, with players like Pape Sarr and Rodrigo Bentancur ahead of him right now, it’s hard to argue for a place in the team for Skipp.

Oliver Skipp decision will be made at end of season

Fielding a question about Oliver Skipp’s playing time this season and how the player may factor into his squad next year, Postecoglou insisted that any decision on the player’s future will be handled at the end of the current campaign, and revealed his hope that any outcome can benefit the club and the player.

He said (via Football.London): “Again we’re quite comfortable in that situation as well. Decisions about individual players will all be made in the context of what’s good for the club and what’s good for the player and hopefully, there’s some sort of alignment there. Sometimes there isn’t.

“From our perspective, we’re comfortable that with the squad we have we’ll make decisions that are going to be beneficial for us in terms of our growth. A lot of those individual things about individual players won’t be made until post-season.”

Skipp will very likely be staying put, due to our need for homegrown, club-trained players. That’s not necessarily ideal for Skipp himself, or the club, really, but there is very little else that can be done. Hopefully, he can find himself in the team a little more regularly next year, though.
