Postecoglou confirms he will use Harry Kane against Brentford if he is still at Spurs

Ange Postecoglou has insisted that he never had any doubts about using Harry Kane if the striker is still at Tottenham when the Premier League campaign gets underway in a week’s time.

On Sunday, Kane served another demonstration of just why he is thought of as the most well-rounded number nine in world football, with the 30-year-old netting four goals against Shakhtar Donetsk and also being one of the Lilywhites’ main creative outlets.

Despite the speculation continuing to intensify over his future, the centre-forward demonstrated his professionalism and showed Postecoglou that he can be counted on.

When asked if Kane’s performance against Shakhtar had put to rest any doubts that he might have had about the striker, the Spurs head coach told Football.London after his side’s 5-1 win: “There’s no doubt that I would use Harry, I don’t need today to tell me that. He’s a fantastic striker, one of the world’s best.

“I think the way the team plays will help him as well. He loves scoring goals and you saw today we created a load of chances and he was the beneficiary of that.”

However, Kane did perform a lap of honour around the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium following the final whistle, which some may argue indicates that the England captain expects the clash against Shakhtar to be his final game for Spurs – even though he does this regularly.

Ange Postecoglou is prepared for all situations

Postecoglou admitted that he and the backroom staff at Spurs have been preparing for the contingency of the striker’s departure right from the outset.

When asked how difficult it would be to replace someone who scores so many goals, the Australian responded: “Again, I’ll deal with that when the time comes, you know? I’ve always had these contingencies in my head anyway, whether it’s Harry or anyone else, there’s no guarantee about anybody.

“There’s all sorts of things that can happen that affect your planning. I’m not going to spend a lot of time or energy thinking about something that may not happen because, again, I don’t have that luxury.

“It’d be different maybe if it was my third or fourth year at the club, if we’d already established the way we play, established the squad and that was my major issue or only issue then maybe I’d be a little bit more obsessive about it.

“But right now, I’m trying to build a style of game, a squad of players, different training, there’s so many things that are really important that I can’t be distracted by one or two other things.”

Spurs Web Opinion

Kane is a model professional who would undoubtedly give his 100 per cent for Spurs even if he expects the switch to Bayern to go through. So, using him against Brentford would be a no-brainer if he is still at the club.

However, I suspect that the deal will likely be wrapped up in the next couple of days, with all parties now seemingly being keen on finalising the transfer.
