Postecoglou confirms who will start at left-back for Tottenham against Arsenal

Ange Postecoglou has confirmed that Ben Davies will start at left-back in place of the injured Destiny Udogie against Arsenal.

It was announced earlier this week that Udogie had undergone surgery on his left quadriceps, with the Italian expected to be out of action until pre-season.

It was not the ideal way to end what has been a brilliant debut season for the 21-year-old in the Premier League and he will undoubtedly be extremely disappointed to miss out on the Euros.

Ben Davies will start for Spurs against Arsenal

While Tottenham are set to be boosted by the return of both Pedro Porro and Richarlison for the North London derby, there was a question mark regarding who will start in place of Udogie.

While Davies is the obvious choice for the role, some Spurs fans wondered if Postecoglou could perhaps decide to move Micky van de Ven to left-back and start with a centre-back pairing of Crisitan Romero and Radu Dragusin.

However, the Tottenham head coach has now confirmed to Football.London that “Ben [Davies] will start” in the former Udinese man’s place this weekend.

One can understand why Ange would not want to disrupt the backline in such a big game by moving Van de Ven to left-back. Davies has not let him down whenever he has featured this season and the 30-year-old has the experience that one needs on big occasions such as this one.
