Postecoglou convinced ‘there is more to come’ from 26-year-old Spurs star

Ange Postecoglou feels that despite Richarlison’s impressive displays over the last few matches, the forward is capable of producing even more over the coming weeks and months.

Richarlison was written off as a flop by some sections of the Tottenham fan base just a few weeks ago and there were even some suggestions in the press that the Brazilian could be sold in January (Football Insider).

However, the 26-year-old has silenced his critics since returning from his groin operation, with the forward now having scored four in his last three Premier League starts.

His latest goal against his former club, Everton, on Saturday showed the confidence that is currently coursing through the striker’s veins as he timed his run brilliantly to get on the end of Pedro Porro’s low cross before producing an excellent first-time finish in the near post past Jordan Pickford.

Richarlison was replaced by Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg just past the hour mark, with Postecoglou revealing after the game that the forward had a sore back but insisting that it was not a serious problem (Football London).

The Spurs head coach has now praised the 26-year-old’s general play and backed him to continue improving over the next few games.

Postecoglou told BBC about Richarlison following Tottenham’s 2-1 win: “He obviously missed a bit of football with his operation but he’s getting stronger every game. His general play has been really good but I know there’s more to come.”

Richarlison could not have found form at a better time, given that Son Heung-min is going to potentially be unavailable for more than a month due to the Asian Cup.

If the Brazilian had not turned his performances around, I suspect the club would have seriously considered signing a number nine in January, which is unlikely to be a priority any longer.
