Postecoglou explains how Dominic Solanke is making his Spurs teammates thrive

Another game, another goal for Dominic Solanke, but after seeing his side defeat Manchester United 3-0, Ange Postecoglou had praise for other aspects of his striker’s game.

Solanke scores again

It’s safe to say Solanke has settled in to life at Tottenham pretty nicely now, and with another goal today, he makes it three in three and helps the Lilywhites extend their unbeaten run to four wins in all competitions.

Against United, Solanke was a constant pain for the home side’s defenders, putting pressure on them, playing a physical game, and acting as a dangerous presence in the box.

It was there that he nabbed his third goal for Spurs, making a clever move from a corner to get on the end of a Pape Matar Sarr flick-on to poke home past Andre Onana to make it 3-0 and kill the game.

Solanke makes life easy for his teammates

This purple patch comes on the back of a faltering start to life at Spurs for Solanke, through no real fault of his own. A goalless debut was followed by a couple of games out injured, but he appears to have found his rhythm now.

Speaking to the press (via Football.London) about his frontman, Postecoglou was full of praise for the range of attributes and opportunities Solanke offers the team.

He said: “Dom’s overcome his crisis of confidence that lasted 180 minutes or so and he led the line well. We’ve got a focal point up there in Dom and he attracts the attention of the defenders and takes it away from his team-mates.”

Solanke is the striker Spurs needed

Dominic Solanke looks anything but a square peg in a round hole at Spurs. Although he may not be a Harry Kane replacement, it was pointless for Tottenham to go searching for something that does not exist.

Instead, Ange prioritised signing somehow who could press from the front like a monster, score goals in and around the box, and drag defenders away from the two Tottenham wingers.

That tactic appears to be working a treat for Spurs. It is no coincidence that the likes of Brennan Johnson, Heung-min Son, Dejan Kulusevski and Timo Werner are getting more chances with Solanke in the team.
