Postecoglou explains when Spurs will likely name new Sporting Director

Considering matters behind the scenes for a moment, Ange Postecoglou has been discussing the prospect of working with a new sporting director at Tottenham Hotspur. The manager insists he is not worried about that, and hopes the partnership can be a positive one.

It has been an extremely positive start for Ange Postecoglou so far in the early days of his Spurs career. The Australian came to North London with the promise of exciting, attacking football, and he has duly delivered.

Postecoglou appears to be getting the best out of his players already and, despite the blow of losing Harry Kane, there have been improvements made to the Spurs squad.

Indeed, with nine signings this summer, it has to be said that Daniel Levy has given his new manager every chance of success.

However, there is still one new addition needed at the club. Spurs have been without a director of football since Fabio Paratici stepped down from his role in April.

Postecoglou has no concerns over sporting director

In his latest interview with Football.London, Postecoglou has spoken about what he expects the dynamic to be like when a new sporting director is appointed at the club.

He said: “I think it will [be sorted soon]. That’s definitely the plan. Going into the window, there was no point in rushing the appointment, particularly with a new manager.

“That was probably the best way to charter this unusual process, to have less involvement with new people. So far, the evidence, when you see the players we’ve brought in, I think we’ve navigated it pretty well.”

Asked whether he thinks it will affect his work when someone is hired, Postecoglou added; “I’ve never felt encumbered with whoever I work with. I usually get my way with whoever I work with. I don’t have total control. I have control of one side of it.

“I like working with a sporting director because they do most of the leg work that I just don’t have the time to do. When you’ve got a good sporting director you work together… I want people to be at ease that whatever decisions we make as a collective, I will take responsibility for.

“I’m not going to appoint the person, I’m certainly not going to get involved in that process. The club have already got a clear idea of the way I work and the way I think and the way I want my teams to play. Whoever that person is, it’s my role then to get him to understand me and see the game through my eyes.”

Ange seems like the kind of guy that must be so easy to work with, as he is so honest and open.

Hopefully, adding a sporting director into the mix will not disrupt what Postecoglou is doing, but allow him to focus more on the players and the whole club should benefit from that.
