Postecoglou gives frosty response to Eric Dier transfer speculation

In his post match press conference after the 1-0 win over Burnley tonight in the FA Cup, Ange Postecoglou was asked about speculation linking Eric Dier to Bayern Munich, and the Spurs boss refused to be drawn on the matter.

They may have made hard work of it, but Tottenham are through to the fourth round of the FA Cup and can now look forward to a nice, long break before the Premier League tie with Manchester United in nine days.

Beyond that, Spurs will be keeping an eye on the FA Cup draw to see who they will face in the next round later this month, and will be hoping tonight can be the springboard for a successful cup run this season.

In a tight game, it was a moment of magic from Pedro Porro that sealed the victory for Spurs, with the wing-back lashing in a sublime long-range effort with a little over ten minutes of regulation time to play.

Eric Dier is injured, according to Ange

However, speaking to the press (via Football.London) after the game, Ange Postecoglou fielded a question away from the events on the pitch, regarding Eric Dier‘s proposed move to Bayern Munich (Florian Plettenberg), and he didn’t seem too happy about it.

When asked why Dier wasn’t in the side tonight and whether it had anything to do with the rumours, Postecoglou said: “He’s injured and pulled up sore in training and couldn’t take part.

When pressed on this, Postecoglou added: “[It was] not connected [to the transfer speculation] and don’t question my integrity. He was injured. You’ll have to ask him about that.”

And, in light of Ben Davies’ potential hamstring injury, Postecoglou was asked if he can cope with losing Dier this month, to which he simply replied, “Yes.”

I do love it when Ange gets a little bit grumpy in the press conferences. Fair play to him on this one though – if he says something and people keep pressing him to try and trip him up, I think he’s entitled to push back like this. The bit about being able to get by without Dier even if Davies is injured, too, is hilariously sharp.
