Postecoglou names one Spurs player who has been ‘unlucky’ not to play more

Speaking to the press yesterday, Tottenham Hotspur boss Ange Postecoglou was asked about his squad, and in particular his options in midfield. When handling the question, the Spurs boss insisted Giovani Lo Celso has been unlucky not to get more game time.

We may only be two games into the season, but things are looking pretty positive for Tottenham and their new manager, Ange Postecoglou. An entertaining 2-2 draw away at Brentford on the opening day of the season was followed up with a commanding 2-0 win over Manchester United last weekend.

One of the most impressive areas of this resurgent Spurs squad has been in the midfield. Yves Bissouma has stood out as a player performing with real confidence after a difficult first season at the club, while youngster Pape Matar Sarr scored his first Tottenham goal in the win over United.

Meanwhile, James Maddison has been pulling the strings in the more advanced role of the midfield trio. However, Giovani Lo Celso has not been utilised, despite being on the bench for both games.

Postecoglou has been impressed by Lo Celso

Nevertheless, it seems Postecoglou may have plans to use Lo Celso in the near future, as the Australian told the press (via Football.London) that the midfielder has been ‘unlucky’ not to play more.

When discussing the depth of his midfield, Postecoglou said: “Gio has been unlucky that he hasn’t had any game time but again I’ve been really impressed. We’re going to need [depth]. We’re two games into a long season.

“We’ve seen other clubs having to cope with injuries and I’m sure at some point that’s going to hit us. We need a strong squad and we’ve got three games next week.

“Three away games so we’re definitely going to use pretty much everyone in the squad through that week. It’s important to know that they’re ready.”

Spurs Web Opinion

It seems James Maddison may be fit for the Bournemouth game after all, but you’d have to imagine that Lo Celso will get the nod for the cup game next week to give Maddison a rest. It doesn’t look like Lo Celso will be leaving the club, unless anything drastic changes in the next week, at least.
