Postecoglou on why he is ‘not comfortable’ with Spurs fans singing his name

Ange Postecoglou has explained that he is not yet comfortable with the Tottenham faithful singing his name, as he wants to earn that privilege.

The Spurs fanbase have taken to the Australian coach within a matter of months, largely thanks to his honest press conferences and attacking brand of football.

However, Postecoglou has only actually managed one single game of professional football in the Tottenham dugout so far and is yet to secure his first Lilywhite victory.

It appears the former Celtic man wants to earn the adoration of the crowd by delivering success, rather than lapping up ‘blind faith’, although he remains appreciative of the sentiment.

Whether he likes it or not, there are sure to be a few chants going around the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium this weekend if Postecoglou can lead his side to a victory over Manchester United.

Ange Postecoglou wants to earn his Spurs stripes

Postecoglou said (Football London): “It means a lot but I’m not comfortable with it. You love what it means. For the most part, it’s blind faith. I haven’t earned it yet.

“Hopefully, when the day comes that we deliver something it will mean even more. I’m not dismissive of it and I’m very appreciative of it but it reminds me of the responsibility that I have to repay that faith.

Spurs Web Opinion:

It is comments like this that make Postecoglou so well-liked in Tottenham. After a couple of managers who (and I’m not saying it’s a bad thing) had quite large egos, Postecoglou is a breath of fresh air. I think everyone is fully up for just having a fun, attacking season, as long as there is some progress.
