Postecoglou opens up on the idea of another fly-on-the-wall documentary at Spurs

Ange Postecoglou has revealed that he does not watch too many football documentaries and dismissed the idea that he could be part of one at Tottenham.

Documentaries about sports teams have been quite the rage over recent years and there have been a number of high-profile fly-on-the-wall series following various footballing teams.

Sunderland Till I Die and Take Us Home: Leeds United have been widely watched as has the All or Nothing series, which has followed the likes of Tottenham, Arsenal, Manchester City and Juventus for a season each. However, Postecoglou admitted that he is not a big fan of these kinds of docuseries.

Postecoglou has no interest in being a documentary star

When asked if he watches sports documentaries, the Tottenham head coach told Football.London: “Nah. Look, I’ve probably watched… I think I watched Sunderland ’Til I Die. It was good.”

It was widely reported that while preparing for the Tottenham job, Antonio Conte watched the All or Nothing series about the Lilywhites to gain a better understanding of the atmosphere at the club (Daily Star).

The series followed Tottenham around in the 2019-20 season, where Mauricio Pochettino lost his job and was replaced by Jose Mourinho, who was very much the star of the show in that documentary.

When Postecoglou was asked if he watched the Spurs documentary, he responded: “Nah, because I just think it becomes a bit manufactured. I’d be very surprised if you get a real sort of glance.

“Look, who am I to say, I’m no movie critic. Maybe people like them, but not for me. I love documentaries, but nah.”

The Australian was then asked if he would be part of such as series at N17, to which he joked: “Nah, unless you want a cure for insomnia, mate. Put it on late at night and dream yourself away.”

Spurs Web Opinion

It will certainly be fascinating to see how things work behind the scenes at Spurs under Postecoglou and given the Australian’s ability to make rousing speeches, it will undoubtedly be very watchable for neutrals if a similar documentary was made.

While one can understand why the 58-year-old does not want a camera behind the scenes, he might not have much say in the matter if the club see it as a commercial boost and agree a deal with Amazon or Netflix.
