Postecoglou reveals when he expects Pape Sarr to return to action for Spurs

Pape Sarr saw his Senegal side crash out of the African Cup of Nations last night in a penalty shootout, which means he will be back in action for Spurs soon. But when, exactly? Ange Postecoglou offers his thoughts on the matter in his latest press conference.

After struggling to establish himself as a first-team regular under Antonio Conte, Pape Sarr has flourished while working with Ange Postecoglou and is now regarded as one of the most important midfielders in the Tottenham squad.

His partnership with Yves Bissouma at the start of the season was a key factor in Spurs’ successful ten-game unbeaten run, and he has since shown he can be just as impressive alongside Rodrigo Bentancur, Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg, and Oliver Skipp.

When is Pape Sarr back in action?

Spurs have been without Sarr since he limped off in the win over Bournemouth at the start of January, but not because of injury. The young midfielder has been on international duty with Senegal at AFCON, but his team suffered an early exit last night at the hands of hosts, Ivory Coast.

Naturally, Spurs fans want Sarr back in the team immediately, but Postecoglou has suggested we may have to wait until the weekend to see the 21-year-old on the field.

He told the press (via Football.London): “The latest I heard is he should be back tomorrow at some stage. Disappointed for him and Senegal. From our side he’s a key member of the squad, we’ll have him back and he should be available for Saturday.”

I am praying that Postecoglou is pulling his usual tricks and not getting our hopes up, and then we will see Sarr start the game tomorrow. He is obviously going to be sharp, as he’s been playing, but he could well be fatigued with the 120 minutes against Ivory Coast and then a flight home. It’s very likely we won’t see Sarr at all against Brentford, sadly.
