Postecoglou reveals whether he spoke to Cristian Romero about his discipline

Tottenham Hotspur have a huge boost ahead of the West Ham game tonight, as Cristian Romero is available for selection once more after serving a suspension, and it’s safe to say Ange Postecoglou is happy.

Ever since the defeat to Chelsea at the start of November, things have been rather difficult for Spurs and their boss, Ange Postecoglou.

That game not only ended Tottenham’s unbeaten start to the season, but it also saw injuries to key players James Maddison and Micky van de Ven, and Cristian Romero and Destiny Udogie picking up red cards and suspensions.

The Lilywhites have been without Romero for the last three games, but he is finally ready to play again, and is very likely to go straight into the starting lineup for the visit of West Ham tonight.

Postecoglou is delighted to have Romero back

Speaking ahead of the game (via Football.London), Postecoglou was asked about how good it was to have Romero available for selection once more.

He said: “Great to have him back because he’s the only recognised centre-half fit at the moment because Micky van de Ven, Eric Dier and Ashley Phillips are all out so to have him back is obviously good. He’s also a fantastic player, a leader in group.

“We lost Madders and him after the Chelsea game so a lot of that [leadership responsibility] fell on Sonny’s shoulders so from that perspective good to have him back. I’ve not had to have a word with about discipline. It’s part of who he is as a player, he brings a physicality to it.

“When he oversteps the mark the whole group pays a price so it’s up to him to maintain discipline I know he can show. But more importantly he’s such a strong presence on the field and in during the week so good to have him back.”

Having Romero back is massive. He should bring so much stability back to the defence, and as Ange says, he’s a leader too. One player can’t fix the team entirely, but this definitely takes us a step closer to being back to our best.
