Ange Postecoglou has dismissed any suggestions that the Everton game might come too quickly for James Maddison, given that he was struggling with cramp towards the end of Wednesday’s clash against Brentford.
One of the biggest positives Tottenham would have taken from the 3-2 win over Brentford was Maddison’s display, with the attacking midfielder looking completely up to speed despite making his first start in nearly three months.
The 27-year-old demanded the ball from his teammates and dictated proceedings for much of the encounter, showcasing just what the Lilywhites were missing since the start of November.
However, he had to come off in the dying stages of the game due to a cramp, which was perhaps to be expected since he has not had many competitive minutes recently.

Postecoglou suggests Maddison will start for Tottenham
Next on the agenda for Spurs is a difficult trip to Goodison Park and some might have wondered if Postecoglou could decide to rest Maddison due to fears over the midfielder over-exert himself, but the Australian dismissed that suggestion.
When asked if the former Leicester man would be able to start at Goodison Park, less than 72 hours after the clash against Bees, Postecoglou told Football.London: “He’s a professional footballer, mate. I hope so because if we’re going to be playing in Europe, unless he wants to pick and choose which games to play, I’d suggest that Madders will be right for tomorrow.”

It is pretty clear from Ange’s words that Maddison is going to start against the Toffees. It will be interesting to see if Pape Sarr comes into the eleven and if Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg is rewarded with a start for his impressive second-half showing against Brentford.
