Postecoglou says one Spurs star has ‘all of the attributes’ he looks for in a player

Speaking after the 5-1 win over Lion City Sailors, Tottenham Hotspur boss Ange Postecoglou was full of praise for hat-trick hero Richarlison.

Spurs bounced back from last week’s defeat to West Ham in style today, as they trounced Singapore outfit Lion City in the second match of Postecoglou‘s pre-season tour of Australasia.

It was Brazilian striker Richarlison who really changed the game for Spurs. The attacker came on at half-time with the score poised at one apiece.

Richarlison didn’t take long to make his presence known, scoring his first goal just three minutes into the second half. He followed that up just four minutes later, but had to wait until injury time to complete his hat-trick.

After a disappointing campaign in front of goal in 2022/23, there is renewed optimism that Richarlison could flourish in his sophomore season with Spurs after a promising start to pre-season.

Richarlison can fit Postecoglou’s style of play

Addressing the press (via Football.London) after his first win as Spurs boss, Postecoglou praised Richarlison and suggested he will fit into his system nicely.

Postecoglou said: “I hope [he’s got his confidence now]. I’ve said before that I really like Richy. He’s someone who has got all of the attributes I look for in a striker in that he’s got the strong work ethic, he’s always in the right areas and he’s presenting himself and making a presence of himself in the right areas for the way we play.

“He was probably a bit unlucky not to get a couple against West Ham. Again he was in the right areas today. I’ve got a lot of time for him and he’s one of the ones I’m looking forward to working with.

“From the outside, you see a player and you try to picture how they fit into the kind of football you want to play and I certainly think he can.”

Spurs Web Opinion

Despite his lack of goals last season, I saw enough in Richarlison’s performances to suggest he would have the desire and work rate to be a success at this club eventually.

Hopefully, he can play as the central striker more this year and gain some momentum in front of goal.
