Postecoglou wants Spurs to sign one ‘big-name’ midfielder – Journalist reports

Transfer expert Pete O’Rourke has revealed in his column for Football Insider that Ange Postecoglu is prioritising a marquee signing in midfield before the transfer window shuts on September 2.

Since Harry Kane’s departure to Bayern Munich over the weekend, the headlines from a Spurs perspective have revolved around who the club will sign to replace the England captain.

There has also been a lot said and written about the Lilywhites’ need to strengthen further at the back, with Torino’s Perr Shuurs mooted as the club’s leading centre-back target by some sources (GiveMeSport).

Spurs are looking for a meaningful midfield signing

O’Rourke has now revealed that strengthening in the middle of the park is just as much of a priority for Spurs.

He claims that Postecoglou wants to use a portion of the fee received from Kane’s sale to sign another midfielder before the transfer window slams shut.

The journalist adds that Tottenham’s transfer kitty will be boosted even further by the potential departures of Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg and Tanguy Ndombele, which will allow the Spurs head coach to get his wish of a ‘big-name midfield arrival’.

Spurs Web Opinion

Tottenham are guaranteed to sign a striker, centre-back and a central midfielder, with reports now indicating that Orban, Shuurs and potentially Gallagher are the club’s top targets for each of those positions respectively.

Besides these three, I also expect Spurs to make one wildcard attacking signing such as Brennan Johnson or Eberechi Eze, who can operate centrally as well as cover for the wide areas.
