‘Prefer to operate quietly’ – Journalist claims Spurs may make surprise striker signing

Football.London’s Alasdair Gold has revealed that Tottenham could pull off a surprise this transfer window by landing a striker that they have not been linked with so far.

Several names have been linked with a move to Spurs over the past few weeks, with Paston Daka also emerging as a potential target.

Reports since then have indicated the Zambian international is keen to stay at RB Salzburg (Evening Standard) but Gold has now said that Tottenham have not given up hopes of landing the 21-year-old this summer.

He revealed that there was also truth to Spurs’ rumoured interest in Arkadiusz Milik and Habib Diallo but suggested that the Lilywhites could be working on signing another striker under the radar.

When asked if Spurs still held an interest in Daka, he said during a Q and A: “He’s one of a few strikers Spurs have on their shortlist.

“He’s a talented young player but there’s plenty of interest in him and we know Tottenham don’t go in for auctions.

“He and Habib Diallo are definitely strikers Spurs have looked closely at as is Milik at Napoli, although his wages are an issue.

“Don’t rule out someone from left field. Tottenham prefer to operate quietly to prevent a battle.”

Some Spurs fans on social media are understandably concerned that the club have not been able to bring a striker in before the start of the season, particularly given the uncompromising schedule the club has at the start of the campaign.

While Gold insisted that Spurs will not wait too long before signing a striker, he revealed that it was much more important for the North Londoners to sign the right option than rushing a deal through.

He added: “For me, it’s about Spurs making sure they get the right striker and after waiting a year it’s hardly like they’re rushing.

“I think with Kane, Son and Lucas, Tottenham have probably got enough options to rotate upfront in those early cup games against teams that on paper and with no crowds they should still be overcoming.

“I don’t believe Spurs will wait too long to sign that striker though.”

Spurs Web Opinion

Mourinho seemed quite calm about our pursuit of a striker and appeared quite confident that we will get one over the line soon. That suggests that we potentially have a few irons in the fire already. The recent links to Andrea Belotti are perhaps evidence that the club is looking at options that the media have not yet picked up on.
