Premier League club keen to tie down defender amid Spurs interest

According to a report from the Daily Mail, Everton are keen to tie down defender Lucas Digne to a new contract amid interest from Tottenham Hotspur.

Everton have suffered an extremely poor season so far and confirmed following the 5-2 defeat against Liverpool on Wednesday evening that they parted ways with manager Marco Silva (Sky Sports).

Digne has been one of the few shining lights in a forgettable campaign for the Merseysiders as he has continued to impress.

The Frenchman joined Everton from Barcelona for £18m in August 2018 and has gone on to become one of the most sought after full backs in the Premier League (Guardian).

The report in the Daily Mail claims that Tottenham made an approach for Digne in the summer but were knocked back by Everton. The 26-year-old is said to be valued at around £70m.

Spurs have experienced problems at left back with Ben Davies out with an ankle injury and Danny Rose looking a shadow of his former self so far this season.

The Toffees are said to be working on a new contract for Digne to tie him down to the club for the foreseeable future.

Spurs Web Opinion

While I rate Digne quite highly, I don’t expect us to go for him as he is likely out of our price range. Besides, with the lob sided back three/back four system that Mourinho seems intent on employing, I believe a defensive-minded left back like Ben Davies would be a better fit than someone like Lucas Digne.
