Premier League legend Nemanja Vidic gives his review of Spurs’ Micky van de Ven

Nemanja Vidic has named Micky van de Ven as one of the centre-backs who has impressed him the most, admitting that he is a big fan of the Tottenham man.

Van de Ven has already won many admirers in his first season of Premier League football, with the Dutchman taking to English football like fish to water since arriving from Wolfsburg last summer.

Although the 23-year-old has been part of a Tottenham backline which has leaked quite a few goals this season, he and Cristian Romero have been nearly flawless at the back.

The Netherlands international has not only defended aggressively on the front foot like Ange Postecoglou demands but has also saved Spurs time and again with his blistering recovery pace.

Nemanja Vidic says Micky Van de Ven can ‘really improve’

Van de Ven has also showcased his technical quality on the ball, regularly striding forward with the ball at his feet as he did before producing a lovely finish in Tottenham’s 2-1 win over Burnley last Saturday.

Vidic has now written in The Times: “I like talking about the young ones. Micky van de Ven. He’s fast, strong and good in the air, and has the capabilities to really improve.

“The two from Arsenal [William Saliba and Gabriel Magalhaes] are doing well. Watching them, I feel they like defending and want the clean sheet. I like the mentality they show.”

Tottenham’s recruitment department and Postecoglou deserve a lot of credit for identifying Van de Ven as someone who would be a perfect fit for our system. The Dutchman’s market value has arguably trebled since he arrived at the club.
