Premier League manager claims only Spurs have been better than his club this season

Tottenham Hotspur got off to a good start in the Premier League this season with a late win against newly-promoted Aston Villa on the opening weekend.

Spurs may have gone 1-0 down on the day, but they outplayed Villa and rescued the three points with a late flurry of goals.

Tanguy Ndombele scored to make it 1-1 on his debut, while Harry Kane scored two in the final ten minutes to secure the points for his boyhood club.

The initial signs looked to be good for Spurs, but they have since only been able to win one extra game, despite playing seven since the Villa victory.

Aston Villa boss, Dean Smith, has now come out and claimed that his side’s 18th place in the Prem table is harsh as only one team has outplayed them so far, Tottenham.

Spurs will be hoping to recreate the wins against Villa and Crystal Palace when they take on Southampton today at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

Dean Smith said (Villa website): “It’s very harsh because I look at the eight games we’ve played this season and think only Tottenham have been better than us.

“In all the games we’ve played so far we’ve been very competitive, a couple of mistakes let us down against Bournemouth and at Villa Park, we’ve been good.”
