Tottenham Hotspur striker Richarlison has received support from not only his Brazilian team-mates but also from some of their family members as he goes through a tricky spell in his career, Matheus Cunha has revealed.

The 26-year-old was seen sitting on the bench in tears after being subbed having failed to find the net again in a 5-1 win for Brazil over Bolivia last week, having missed a relatively easy opportunity to get himself on the scoresheet after he had beaten his marker and could only fire a shot over the bar from inside the penalty area minutes into the second half.

Richarlison‘s time at Tottenham has not been easy since he completed his £60milion move from Everton in July of last year (Sky Sports) and only managed to score one Premier League goal for the North Londoners last season, which came in the defeat at Liverpool in April.

Can Richarlison lead the line for Tottenham?

Wolves forward Cunha admitted that his family consoled the Tottenham player after the final whistle at the Mangueirão.

Cunha told Brazilian outlet UOL. “My family was by my side, my parents came out to hug him before anyone else, because they had already lived that with their son.

“Everyone will make mistakes, it’s human, and the most important thing is the selection’s victory. We have a responsibility, of course.”

He added: “He’s a great player and we’re close friends.

“I want him to be at his best because the competition for places is both against him and myself.”

Richarlison is a player who relies on his confidence to perform to his highest ability and it’s clear to see at the moment he’s in a difficult stage of his career and rightly should get the support he needs.

It remains to be seen whether Ange Postecoglou will recall Richarlison to his starting eleven for Saturday’s Premier League match against Sheffield United, or keep Heung-min Son as his central striker after the South Korean scored a hat-trick at Burnley last time out.
