Premier League player suggests Spurs are not effective under Mourinho

Norwich City player Alexander Tettey has criticised the way Tottenham Hotspur approach matches under Jose Mourinho.

The experienced midfielder, who has been with the Canaries since 2012, came on from the bench last Wednesday to help his side end Tottenham’s hopes of FA Cup success.

The result came as a major blow to Tottenham’s hopes of winning a piece of silverware this season, with some players coming under severe criticism for their performances.

While results initially picked up when the Portuguese coach replaced Mauricio Pochettino at the helm in November, it is now clear that his honeymoon period is well and truly over.

The Spurs head coach has maintained that it is unfair to judge him on the results so far given the injury problems he’s had to deal with (Football.London) but Tettey believes Spurs are simply not as proactive now as they were under Pochettino.

Speaking to vg.no, the midfielder said: “They’ve changed completely from being very aggressive and good with the ball under Mauricio Pochettino, to what they’re doing now, where they just wait for you.

“If you play as we play, you create chances.”

Spurs Web Opinion

It is clear that we don’t press as high up the park as we used to under Pochettino but the intensity of our pressing had dropped off considerably in the last couple of seasons under the Argentine. We simply don’t have a squad capable of playing with the same energy levels as we did back in 2015-16 and 2016-17.
