Presenter claims manager has already turned down the Tottenham job

Alan Brazil has claimed that Vincent Kompany has turned down an approach from Tottenham Hotspur.

With Cristian Stellini being tasked with steering the ship until the end of the season, alongside Ryan Mason, Spurs have bought themselves a few weeks to hunt for their next head coach.

A whole host of managers across Europe have been linked with the Tottenham job over the last few weeks, with Kompany’s name also being mentioned recently.

In fact, The Sun reported on Thursday that the Manchester City legend has now emerged as a leading contender to take over from Antonio Conte.

The report stated that Daniel Levy has been impressed with the exciting brand of football that Kompany has got Burnley playing, and asserted that the Belgian would be open to taking over at the North London club.

However, bizarrely, Brazil has now stated that the 36-year-old manager has already knocked back Tottenham’s approach.

When asked about Spurs’ rumoured interest in Kompany, the pundit told talkSPORT (6:24am, March 31, 2023): “Rewind four weeks ago. I told you that four weeks ago. He turned it down.”

Spurs Web Opinion

I doubt Alan Brazil would have some insider information on this matter that journalists close to Tottenham and Burnley do not. So, we should take this claim with a pinch of salt.

However, it is not entirely impossible that Belgium would reject the Spurs job as he might not want to take too big a step too soon in his career, having seen how some other managers like Lampard have failed to make the step up to a big Premier League job.
