Presenter warns Leeds United about potentially losing player to Tottenham

Leeds United should expect to lose Illan Meslier amid interest from clubs like Tottenham Hotspur, according to Conor McGilligan, the presenter of the One Leeds Fan Channel account on YouTube (via Caught Offside).

Meslier joined Leeds in the summer of 2020 from French side FC Lorient. The young keeper has established himself as a key part of the Yorkshire side’s squad, and has made 103 appearances in his time with the club, conceding 166 goals along the way (Transfermarkt).

The 22-year-old is highly rated and is considered by many as one of the brightest young goalkeepers in the Premier League. The fact he has such a level of top-flight experience already at such a young age makes Meslier a hot prospect for bigger clubs looking for a new keeper.

One of those clubs, as we know, is Tottenham Hotspur. Hugo Lloris is out of contract in 2024 and the club are actively looking into finding a long-term replacement for their captain and current number-one goalkeeper (Evening Standard).

Spurs have already been linked with Meslier (The Athletic’s Phil Hay Show) and Chelsea are also believed to be interested (SI and Dan talk Chelsea substack). Now, Leeds United have been warned to prepare to lose the keeper in the near future by McGilligan.

He said: “That is going to happen. That is naturally going to happen. Unfortunately, he’s 22 years of age, he’s going to leave Leeds. There’s a lot of talk about him being the succession plan to Hugo Lloris that would make sense as well.”

Spurs Web Opinion

I really like Illan Meslier and I can definitely see him being the one to take over from Hugo Lloris between the sticks for Spurs. He’s young, has tonnes of experience already, and can only get better. There are a few options out there, but Meslier should definitely be on our list.
