President admits club are in ‘advanced talks’ with Spurs over transfer deal

Metz president Bernard Serin has revealed that he is in advanced talks with Tottenham Hotspur for the transfer of Pape Matar Sarr.

The Senegalese midfielder has been with the Ligue 1 outfit for less than a year, having signed a five-year deal from Generation Foot in September 2020.

Serin flew into Stansted on Monday to hold an initial meeting with Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy where a deal was agreed in principle while the two met face-to-face (Sky Sports).

Serin insisted that while the two clubs are in negotiations, the final fee to take Sarr to North London will be more than €10m (£8.5m).

ESPN previously reported that S[purs had agreed a €10 million (£8.5m) fee with a further €5m (£4.2m) in add-ons

It is expected that the 18-year-old will sign a six-year contract with Tottenham and remain on loan at Metz for the remainder of the current campaign.

Sarr has previously been linked with moves to Chelsea, Manchester United and Manchester City (Evening Standard).

He was quoted by journalsit Fabrizio Romano as telling Amazon: “We’re in advanced talks with Tottenham for Sarr, yes – but it’s not done yet. Final fee will be higher than €10m!”

Spurs Web Opinion:

This certainly seems like it will be done before the end of the window. It also reassures me that if Spurs are willing to sign a luxury player who isn’t ready to slot into the team yet, they plan on spending more before the window shuts.
