President says club are ‘kicking themselves’ after letting Tottenham beat them to player in 2023

Empoli president Fabrizio Coris has said that Inter Milan are kicking themselves after allowing Tottenham to win the race for Guglielmo Vicario last summer.

Vicario has quickly become a fan favourite among Tottenham fans since arriving at the club.

Apart from being an excellent short-stopper and calm with the ball at his feet, the Italian is also evidently quite a passionate man who wears his heart on his sleeve, which is one of the reasons the supporters have really taken to him.

The 27-year-old also appears to be a natural leader and is often extremely vocal on the pitch and has thus helped fill some of the leadership void left by Hugo Lloris’ departure.

It has been reported by several outlets that Tottenham saw off competition from the likes of Juventus and Inter Milan to land the shot-stopper (One Football).

Tottenham beat Inter Milan to Guglielmo Vicario

Coris has now confirmed that the Nerazzurri were indeed interested in the goalkeeper but Spurs pounced on him first before the Serie A side could offload Andre Onana.

The Empoli president told Radio Goal (as relayed by Sport Witness) about Vicario’s switch to Tottenham: “The disappointment is not to see him with an Italian team fighting for the Scudetto.

“I think Inter are kicking themselves a bit, but they had the problem of selling Onana first and Tottenham moved first.”

It is worth remembering that Spurs fans were not too thrilled when the club decided to move for Vicario, with many being quite angered at the time that they decided against pursuing David Raya.

However, six months on, most Tottenham supporters will likely not want to swap the Italian for any goalkeeper in the world football. Such has been the impact the 27-year-old has made at N17.
