Real Betis president Angel Haro confirms that Tottenham will be owed a percentage of any future sale of Johnny Cardoso if the North London club do not activate the option to buy the midfielder next summer.

Spurs have an option to buy Johnny Cardoso
Tottenham secured a rather unusual agreement as part of their Giovani Lo Celso sale to Betis on transfer deadline day.
The North London club now have the option to sign Cardoso for around £25m, with the option only though to be valid for a two-week period in next summer’s transfer window (The Telegraph).
Many experts have hailed Spurs for their creative agreement, with some suggesting that it could turn out to be a real coup for the Lilywhites, given the potential that the USA international has shown over the last 12 months (Football Insider).
Some sources even suggested that if Ange Postecoglou’s men decide against activating it, they will automatically get a sell-on clause for the 22-year-old (Football.London), but this had not been confirmed by any official sources until now.

Spurs do indeed have a sell-on clause
Haro has now finally let the cat out of the bag, admitting that Tottenham would be owed a percentage of Cardoso’s future sale if the option to buy is not activated.
When asked about the agreement with Spurs, the Betis president told AS: “It would be something interesting for everyone, it would mean that we would also have an added value.
“In short, if there is a transfer in which there is a capital gain for Betis, Tottenham would have a percentage of it. There is also a purchase option for them, but it would be high and positive for us if it were to happen.”

Even if Tottenham decide that a number six is not a priority next summer and thus choose against activating the option on Cardoso, they are guaranteed a few million in the future whenever a big club swoops for the American midfielder.
